Of the several soundtracks Sawan has created for theatre, drama and installations, two of her favourites are :
PANCHATATVA - excerpts
"Panchatatva" at the GTB Memorial, New Delhi, is the only show of its kind in the Asia Pacific. The spectacular experience combines Bollywood, Indian Classical Music and state of the art technology.
The soundtrack, programmed and arranged by Sawan, brings together Daler Mehndi's shabad rendition, Om Puri's narration of the life and sacrifice of Guru Tegh Bahadur, and Ustad Amjad Ali Khan's magnificent melodic interpretation of the five elements of nature through different ragas.
The installation uses intelligent lighting and architecture mapping based projections synchronized to the soundtrack, which plays on an immersive surround sound system housed in a specially designed apparatus built to weather the harshest of climatic conditions, say its creative directors Himanshu Sabharwal and Ross Ashton.
There are three shows every evening of the week barring Mondays, in English, Hindi and Punjabi.
"Transpositions" directed by Padmashree Dadi Pudumjee, depicts a story of love, lust, forbidden desires, divine tantrik rituals and gruesome death through puppetry, dance, projections and music.
The soundtrack created by Sawan combines chants from the Bhagvad Gita recited by the Head Priest of a Kali Temple, western classical cello and piano, indian classical flute and vocals, ancient ritualistic percussions, electronica and operatic vocals and recited lines from Rumi and Thomas Mann's works.
Winner of Best Soundtrack, Best Set Design and Best Choreography Awards, this show produced by the Ishara Puppet Theatre Trust, has been touring India, USA and Canada for the last many years, gathering rave reviews from critics and audiences.
